Styling Your Black Wardrobe Staples | FASHION

Firstly- Happy New Year! I hope 2023 is everything you want it to be and more and for any areas in your life you may need strength, I hope you find it and have nothing but success x

Styling black outfits is my favourite, it's my go-to colour! So it will be as of no surprise to anyone that my black 'fits fashion page is the only completed one so far on here. I told ya hun, black clothes makes up about 85% of my wardrobe or more I'm not kidding.

It's just so easy when you know how.

Some people think black clothes are boring (my inner child wants to retaliate and say they're boring ngl) Some think only full head to toe colour can make a statement and make you look bright "happy" even, and some feel adding pops of colour to black is just in fact, too bold. Babe, scrap all that nonsense right now!

I am here to show you how simple layering, paired with simple basics and even simpler key accessories, can make your trusty black staples cute af all year round.

Here are 4 of my favourite tricks and the key to achieving them, fuss free!

1) Season friendly accessories

Black is such a transitional colour, don't come @ me bright warriors. What other colour acts as a shape shifter through all seasons and can be worn so many ways? Without clashing with other colours, prints even. Unreal!

Here we take a full black fit, but just add 1 seasoned accessory- a classic winter, cosy scarf. Just a simple layering of 1 item transforms a 1 dimensional outfit with ease! Also, it just gives such classy vibes imo, effortlessly so. The second photo is an example of how the outfit looked underneath the scarf, they give 2 different vibes, right?

In summer, the seasonal scarf can be replaced with the "seasonal over-shirt" which for me is always a bold pop of colour in fact, it still even is my go-to all year round!

2) Mix with the opposite end of the chart- white!

It seems too simple doesn't it? That's the point! It's effortless styling 101. Just like you have a lot of black in your wardobe, I'm sure you have your fair share of white, too. Both colours are simplicity at it's finest. When worn together however, they just contrast so damn good! I loveeee a white shirt thrown over a black 'fit, especially against a tan, it's stunning.

For winter, throwing on a white knitted jumper can just give a black 'fit some much needed balance, to stop you from blending into the background.

Using your second primary colour in your wardrobe alongside your first keeps things very minimalistic, budget-friendly without ever looking boring. It's a winning combo that I for one am here for!

3) Lively layering!

I touched upon this in my first point- a bold pop of colour or as I like to call it "lively layering" which is so simple, so fun and so budget friendly.

Lively layering is buying a bold pop of colour item, for me It's mostly with my shirts. A 1 block colour is my go-to due to it not clashing with other prints, textures... but also because these shirts are so so cheap on Shein!

It's a way for anyone to make a statement without having to give it a lot of thought. It's the quickest way to add some colour to a dark wardrobe and is also a wardrobe staple in that it can be worn so many ways; casual, dressy and anywhere in between- long live lively layering... and SHEIN, too!

4) Subtle tones

If bold pops of colour isn't your thing, don't worry babe you can still inject a little bit of colour to your black essentials. I want to draw your attention to these 2 looks right here, 2 key pieces that can really change the vibe of your outfit without creating a scene.

The first one being a simple cropped shirt. For me, black boots and black blazers are a staple in my wardrobe all year round and do not even get me started on my black cycle shorts- ugh, LOVE IT! Can not wait to see the return of those beauties. This look is a classic case of drab to fab though! Primark is amazing for little cropped shirts atm and a must have for my petite fashionistas out there as they nip in at your waist and create an illusion of a longer torso!

A cropped shirt is ideal for under a blazer but any shirt would work, so long as it isn't longer than the blazer itself. Blue is such a wearable colour for most, making it the perfect choice for spicing up an all black fit without looking too striking.

The second one being a statement blazer. A blazer that is neutral in colour or has hints of other colours in it like this tartan one (also from Primark) it doesn't look too bold nor too crazy and compliments the black very well, but is giving an otherwise basic causal outfit a much dressier edge.

A blazer is one of my favourite style tips to making basics look more put together and dressier, honestly try it! You will be surprised how easily your leggings can look less casual and more smart. If you're going to invest in anything this month or this year, go for a blazer. Effortless and just simply *chefs kiss*

Until next time my lovelies...
